The Joyful Commitments
of
THE APPRENTICES OF ST. JOSEPH

Fall Semester of the Jubilee 2000

Daily Rosary and the Ancient Prayer to St. Joseph  Every day, at our own times, we encounter St. Joseph and his beloved spouse as we offer the Ancient Prayer to St. Joseph and five decades of Our Lady’s Rosary.

Holy Hour of Adoration  Tuesday at 7:30 pm.   We come before the presence of Our Lord exposed in the Blessed Sacrament in the Portiuncula Chapel. Outside space and time, we offer Him that hour He asked of His apostles during His Agony.

Communal Rosary  Tuesday at 8:30 pm following Adoration.  Entering the Nativity scene next to the Port, we kneel in the hay among the statues. One in spirit with those first adorers of the Child, we offer our rosary.

Household T-Shirt Day  Wednesday   We wear our household shirts. All day. It’s that easy.

Business Meeting  Wednesday at 9:00 pm.  This is the apex of the Apprentice experience, the celebrated weekly business meeting. Here, all the most fascinating details of household life are meticulously debated and molded into perfection with boundless love and breathless excitement. This is the only commitment that is closed to the general public. Sorry, no press.

Lackey Workshop  Various Wednesdays after the Business Meeting.  Actually, this is a little closer to the heart of what it means to be an Apprentice. On these nights, the Apprentices join their Lackey brothers (formal intents) to reflect on and discuss some notable passage concerning St. Joseph. Wherever two or three are gathered in His name, Christ is there, and as we open our hearts to learn about and love Joseph more, we know we are in the presence of our foster father and his First Apprentice. As a special mark of respect, the lackeys attend these discussions in shirt-and-tie apparel.

Household Mass  Friday at 6:15 pm.  We meet ten minutes before the evening Mass, sporting shirt-and-tie apparel. We gather around the St. Joseph statue in the Christ the King Chapel and pray the Ancient Prayer to St. Joseph before attending the evening Mass as a household.

Lord*s Day Celebration  Saturday at 4pm.   We gather in our common room to begin the Sabbath in the traditional Steubenville fashion. Watch our announcement board for quick changes, though, as our madcap social whirl of engagements may lead us to unexpected joint Lord’s Days with other households at a moment’s notice.

Work of Mercy  ”Faith apart from works is dead.” (James 2:26) While we strive to make everything we do a work of love, Christ asks us to bring His love to those in severe need. As Apprentices, we commit to cooperate at least once a week in a specific work of mercy such as visiting a hospital or feeding the homeless.

Catholic Manhood Talk  Each Apprentice in his turn organizes one of our monthly talks on Catholic Manhood. A local priest or layman role model discusses what exactly Catholic Manhood is, and how we can hope to achieve it.

Feel free to join us anytime! (Except for the business meetings—time enough for that!) If you have any questions, please call 6944 and ask for “Gramps”. Seriously.

St. Joseph, you who taught Christ Himself how to be a man, please pray for us!
